PRESENTATION
FACIN LAB appears as a Laboratory Project
in 2001, when Cristina Sousa participated in the 9th European Conference - Facial
Expression, Measurement and Meaning, which took place in the University of Innsbruck,
Austria. This researcher officially creates the laboratory in 2006/2007.
Why FACE, AFFECT AND COMMUNICATION ?
FACE, because facial expression is our
main interest in nonverbal behavior.
AFFECT, because we assume a more general
perspective (affect) which also includes emotions as relational processes.
COMMUNICATION, because we intend to
study emotional abilities and self-presentation strategies as central concepts
in communication.
PERSPECTIVE AND OBJECTIVES
Our perspective goes through the integration in a research paradigm that valorises
interaction and social relations in the area of facial behavior, emotions and
affect. We assume that these aspects are part of relational and communicative
processes. We share the interest and growing valorisation of the Affective Sciences,
with the interdisciplinary study of affective phenomena, shown by scientific
community. Regarding this interest, we also named this laboratory by AFFECTIVE
SCIENCES LABORATORY.
Our objectives are the constitution of interdisciplinary research team's in
the study of affective phenomena and establishment of partnerships, in research
and training. We are focused in the articulation of knowledge with practice,
emphasizing the interconnection of different social contexts (work, educational,
health, sportive and clinical).
